Position overviewRadiotherapy Physics provides a comprehensive Physics service to the Addenbrooke's Oncology Centre, ensuring the safe and accurate use of high dose ionising radiation to treat patients with cancer while maintaining a safe environment for all patients, visitors and staff.
Main duties- Prepare treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy, in collaboration with physicists and other members of the planning group.
- Operate computer systems for treatment plans and perform calculations relating to patient doses.
- In the Mould Room, produce individualised immobilisation devices, working directly with doctors and radiographers.
- Collaborate with doctors and radiographers to produce individualised immobilisation devices.
- Engage in the clinical development of the department through the introduction of new techniques and the training of others.
- Be clinically responsible to the consultant on whose behalf any duties directly related to patient care are discharged.

Candidate requirements Qualifications- Diploma of the College of Radiographers or B.Sc. Hons equivalent, or BSc in Clinical Technology (or equivalent), and completion of an IPEM accredited Technologist Training scheme.
- Working towards meeting requirements for the register of clinical technologists or HCPC registration as a radiographer.
- On RCT or HCPC registration as a radiographer.
- Experience of treatment planning.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.
- Excellent problem solving abilities and the ability to synthesise information, evaluate risks, and make difficult decisions.
- Experience of routine planning in a range of treatment planning techniques.
- Ability to interpret, manipulate and present data.
- Previous experience of working in the NHS.
- Knowledge of principles and practice of radiotherapy and oncology.
- Knowledge of immobilisation and shielding techniques.
- Detailed knowledge of principles, practice and limitations of radiotherapy planning and specialist planning techniques.
- Knowledge and application of national regulations relating to ionising radiation for medical exposure (IR(ME)R).
- Good awareness of different treatment planning systems.
- Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, including with patients, MDT members, therapy radiography staff, physics staff, consultants and medical staff.
- Proven ability to influence and negotiate with all grades of staff.
- Involvement with audits and professional presentations.
- Behave at all times towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
- Willingness to change routine working hours to meet department demand and occasionally work extra hours when needed.
This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service is required to check for any previous criminal convictions.
