Exciting Opportunity: Band 5 RN - 6 or 9 month Secondment to the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) with Rotation into Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)

We are offering an exciting 6 - 9 month secondment opportunity for a Band 5 registered nurse to join our AAU (previously the Emergency Floor) team, with rotation into our brand new SDEC, due to open this summer.

This secondment is perfect for nurses looking to broaden their acute care experience, develop rapid assessment and clinical decision-making skills, and be part of a forward thinking team driving urgent and emergency care transformation.

Please note that this role is a secondment opportunity. Before applying you must seek agreement and authorisation from your current line manager. Secondments can't be agreed without your current manager's approval. If you are unable to gain your managers approval you should refrain from applying unless you wish to take this role as a fixed term position.

Main duties of the job Clinical Assessment and Care Delivery
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of acutely unwell patients on arrival
  • Initiate and deliver evidence-based care, including administration of medications
  • Prioritise care needs using clinical judgement and early warning scoring systems
  • Support rapid turnover of patients through timely interventions and safe discharge or admission planning
Collaborative Multidisciplinary working
  • Liaise effectively with doctors, ACP's, therapists and discharge teams
  • participate in board rounds, contributing nursing insights to clinical decision making
  • Escalate concerns appropriately and advocate for patients in need of urgent care
Patient Experience and Communication
  • Provide clear explanations and emotional support to patients and families
  • Ensure patients understand their treatment plans, discharge advice and follow up arrangements
  • maintain dignity, respect and confidentiality at all time

Detailed job description and main responsibilities To function within the team providing acute assessment and treatment to unwell adults in both the AAU and SDEC. Including:
  • Providing high quality evidence based clinical care to patients, in line with the trust values and in accordance with professional regulations.
  • Working with others to protect and promote health and wellbeing of those in your care, their families and carers, and the wider community.
  • To work in line with Trust policies, objectives, protocols and local guidelines.
  • To act as a role model.
  • Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the senior nurse in charge, recognising and working within the limits of your competence.
  • Take every opportunity to continue to maintain and develop your own practice.
  • Facilitate students and others to develop their competence through supervision, teaching and role modelling
Person specification Professional Registration
  • RGN with NMC Registration
Experience/Qualifications
  • 6 months post registration in University Hospitals Sussex
  • Clinical competencies: Venepuncture, Cannulation, male re-catheristaion
  • Aware of Health and Safety issues and Risk Management
  • Experience in an NHS or UK healthcare setting.
  • Evidence of professional development since qualification
  • AIMs
