Job Description

We are looking for a HVAC/ Building Services Design Engineer to join the Projects team at Thermatic Technical FM.

As a Thermatic HVAC/ Building Services Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and coordination of HVAC/building services, including air conditioning, ventilation, heating, public health services, and building controls on various projects.

Thermatic Technical FM provides complete nationwide coverage across the full spectrum of Hard FM services to large, commercial clients. Our team of mobile engineers is supported by account teams at Head Office to deliver reactive breakdown and planned maintenance services.

Hours & Location of Work:

  • Main location - Thermatic Head Office, Salford. Opportunities to work remotely part of the week are available.
  • Regular hours - Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, 40-hour workweek.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • HNC, HND, Degree in relevant engineering disciplines or working towards it.
  • Proficient in desktop IT packages including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and AutoDesk AutoCAD (release v2020+).
  • Experience in HVAC and Building Services design, successfully engineered commercial projects of varying sizes.
  • Ability to complete and coordinate feasibility studies, design specifications, detailed engineering designs, calculations, and liaise with contract managers throughout project lifecycle.
  • Experience in the FM Industry within an SME environment is desirable.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing detailed HVAC/Building Services engineering feasibility designs and proposals to meet client performance requirements, ensuring compliance with standards (CIBSE, Building regs, etc.).
  • Developing and preparing bespoke HVAC/Building Services standards for client approval where not stipulated.
  • Providing documented information (verified calculations, design drawings) for tender submissions, including preliminary design schemes.
  • Establishing design concepts and site survey specifics with the project team for client approval.
  • Coordinating project contract documents and liaising with project managers.
  • Handling day-to-day queries from project sites to ensure timely information flow.
  • Reviewing and developing technical knowledge, offering expert advice for project needs.
  • Managing document controls, ensuring proper filing of drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence.
  • Attending client design review meetings and site surveys as needed.
  • Building positive relationships with clients for open communication on project progress.
  • Using AutoCAD to generate project designs for analysis and review.
  • Supervising AutoCAD technicians, reviewing workloads, and signing off completed drawings.
