Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry across the Crisis pathway and Tier 3 Forensic & Young Person's Drug and Alcohol Service.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide medical psychiatric assessment and intervention, including pharmacological treatment and Mental Health Act assessment to patients within the Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health (EWMH) Care Group, ensuring best quality of care.
Clinical sessions will include contribution to the development of the drug and alcohol service, and to provide psychiatric consultation and, where required, joint clinical work in the Tier 3 Forensic Service, and providing psychiatric input in the Crisis pathway (Crisis Team, IHTT, CITT).
Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.

Person Specification Qualifications- On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT due within 6 months of interview date (note that Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application)
- Section 12 Approved and AC approved (or in process of applying)
- At least three years' training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in a recognised training scheme
- Additional experience or interest in specialty area
- Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
- Effective and demonstrable communication skills
- Knowledge of Child Protection, safeguarding, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
- Ability to find creative solutions to problems
- Demonstrable additional abilities in one or more areas of speciality
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
- Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent)
- Evidence of active research interests
- Evidence of teaching medical students and resident doctors
- Evidence of effective leadership skills
