Construction Manager (Civils bias)

Location: Glasgow / Lothian and Borders, Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway, Fife, Central belt, etc.

Salary up to £76,500 per year, with a strong benefits package, excellent overtime opportunities (details below), and our pension scheme, where we double match your contribution up to 10%.

Role

The Construction Manager plays a key role in the SPT business, managing the Construction Management Team resources and outputs during all project phases: Development, Procurement, Delivery, and Closure.

The responsibilities include:

  • Leading development, procurement, and construction delivery from concept to closure, ensuring alignment with CAPEX.
  • Managing compliance with health and safety laws, CDM 2015, and environmental legislation as the Principal Contractor.
  • Overseeing environmental and sustainability regulatory requirements, supporting net zero targets.
  • Managing and evaluating commercial aspects to control CAPEX risks.
  • Ensuring regulatory outputs meet milestones.
  • Leading external stakeholder management per national standards.
  • Monitoring all packages (civil, electrical, cable, OHL) for safety and operational standards.
  • Developing and managing the onsite construction team through performance management, coaching, and mentoring, including trainee site managers.
  • Ensuring quality management systems compliance to optimize asset lifecycle and reduce OPEX.
What you will bring
  • Proven experience in planning and managing civil works, groundworks, roads, drainage, foundations, control buildings, and structures within a transmission substation environment.
  • Ability to interpret civil and structural drawings and adhere to inspection/testing regimes.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, OHL, and cable packages.
  • Experience with large ducting and multidisciplinary cabling projects is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and contract management skills, including variation and claims management, with knowledge of CESSM.
  • Understanding of NEC/FIDIC contract conditions.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders, including contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction, and commissioning of assets.
  • Line management experience, HR process awareness.
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience in construction management within the power sector.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Current five-day SMSTS qualification.
