Job Purpose

This role leads a high-performing team of Database Administrators (DBAs) responsible for the reliable and efficient operation of our critical transactional platform. Additionally, you will play a key role in innovating and developing data solutions for our digital products.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive operational excellence.

Job Duties

1. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of DBAs.
2. Define and implement best practices for database administration, including performance tuning, service escalations, monitoring, security, and disaster recovery.
3. Oversee all aspects of database operations, including installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, patching, and application development through data solutions.
4. Monitor database performance and proactively resolve issues.
5. Collaborate with development, architecture, and service teams to ensure smooth database deployments, integrations, best practice solution design, and achievement of service SLA requirements.
6. Participate in capacity planning and resource allocation for the DBA team.
7. Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for all critical database systems.
8. Stay updated with the latest database technologies and industry best practices, implementing continuous improvements across our technology, processes, and team skills.
9. Support the wider live platform beyond databases, including providing consultancy on our new real-time BI platform.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

1. Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team in a 24x7 high-traffic environment.
2. In-depth knowledge of database administration concepts, including performance tuning, security, scaling, clustering, backup, and replication.
3. Hands-on experience in an operational production DBA role with MySQL, MariaDB, or Oracle.
4. Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
5. Experience collaborating with developers and technical architects.
6. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
7. Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
8. Understanding of Linux, preferably CentOS or similar.
9. Experience with administering NoSQL databases like MongoDB is beneficial.
