Job Description

Uisce Éireann is Ireland's national regulated water utility, providing secure, safe, and sustainable water services.

We are recruiting Senior Operatives/Operators in North Cork for the Water Network Maintenance & Repair Senior Operative and Water Network Senior Operator roles. Out of hours working will be required; appropriate overtime and standby rates apply.

Applicants must be located within a reasonable distance from the assigned work area to respond to out hours requirements in a timely manner.

Water Network Maintenance & Repair Senior Operative
  • Supervise the planned and reactive maintenance and repair activities across the water and wastewater network infrastructure in a safe and hygienic manner, including repairs of bursts and leaks, water mains and services, associated fittings replacements, water meters and customer boundary boxes, cleaning of service reservoirs, replacing valves and hydrants, and performing tests following repairs to pipes and pumps to deliver consistent customer service. Other network activities include assisting with sewer surveys, identifying heavy infiltration or storm water from road gullies, investigating required interventions, clearing blockages and responding to alarms.
  • Ensure prompt response to alarms, provide emergency cover and resolve issues and incidents on water network infrastructure assets.
  • Regularly check chemical dosing measures at pumping stations and other odour control activities; support compliance and sampling teams with operational sampling, including new mains, burst repairs, failures and reporting results as required.
  • Direct maintenance and repair of non domestic water meters, including site investigations, removal and replacement, liaising with Metering Services as appropriate.
  • Supervise teams to inform customers about issues and resolutions, investigate and follow up on escalated complaints, and support delivery of consistent customer service while managing public health and compliance risk.
  • Support Customer teams, including Key Account Managers and Customer Service, with any customer issues or queries where works impact service delivery.
  • Oversee teams to record and report accurately on operations, including logging investigations, raising follow on work orders, and updating H&S records and inventory management.
  • Monitor all works, manage material requisitions, and record details accurately on or off system, ensuring incidents are documented with circumstances.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety procedures, performing risk assessments, using PPE, and fulfilling duties under Construction Regulations.
  • Operate Uisce Éireann vehicles and machinery responsibly, following vehicle, health, safety and security policies, ensuring sufficient stock levels.
  • Ensure teams adhere to task schedules and SOPs, close out work orders upon completion, and support SOP development when required.
  • Work with third parties/contractors to support network activities.
  • Issue permits to contractors and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders, such as landowners, Uisce Éireann personnel and contractors.
  • Track and monitor team activities, update timesheets, sign off attendance, evaluate performance, and assist line manager with ad hoc reporting.
  • Drive efficiency of works, inspect regularly, and track training delivery to teams.
  • Provide cover and support to other water operations teams as required, covering annual leave or sickness.
  • Carry out any other duties deemed necessary or requested by line manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Secondary level education or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience supervising or managing teams with a strong health and safety culture, preferably in a water or wastewater network environment.
  • Experience/understanding of working within a strong health & safety culture.
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater network, infrastructure and operations (advantage).
  • Sound knowledge and experience of maintenance and repair skills for the network (preferable).
  • Sound knowledge and experience of wastewater network infrastructure and operations (preferred).
  • Full, clean, class B driving licence (minimum requirement); additional driving licence categories an advantage.
  • Experience using IT systems.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong customer service skills with demonstrable experience of dealing with customers.
  • Ability to work in potentially hazardous environments (chemical, sewer, confined spaces, lone/remote work, deep water, noise, vibration) after successful occupational health assessment.
  • Literacy skills.
  • Experience in water services or other utilities (advantage).
Water Network Senior Operator
  • Supervise the operation of the water/wastewater network in your area of responsibility to deliver consistent customer service and oversee routine maintenance activities.
  • Regularly check chemical dosing measures at pumping stations and other odour control activities; support compliance and sampling teams with operational sampling, including new mains, burst repairs and failures, reporting results as required.
  • Supervise teams to inform customers about issues and resolutions, investigate and follow up on escalated complaints.
