OverviewAn opportunity for an experienced Crisis Management Underwriter to underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements across a specialist portfolio. The role will combine disciplined risk selection and portfolio management with strong broker and client relationships, supporting profitable growth within agreed underwriting authority, appetite and pricing guidelines.
You will contribute technical expertise, market insight and underwriting judgement while developing relationships across the London and international insurance markets.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements within agreed authority, appetite, pricing and governance guidelines.
- Assess Crisis Management risks, including threats, territories, client operations, loss history, security arrangements, response capabilities and potential accumulations.
- Identify and pursue appropriate new business opportunities through effective broker engagement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, response partners and relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare quotations, terms and policy documentation in line with agreed service standards.
- Monitor portfolio performance, premium, claims experience, exposure and other key underwriting indicators.
- Provide regular updates on portfolio performance, pipeline, exposures and emerging issues.
- Analyse emerging threats, claims trends, market developments and changes in client requirements.Apply market knowledge to risk selection, pricing and portfolio management.
- Identify opportunities to refine coverage, policy wordings, pricing and product offerings within agreed appetite and governance.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, legal, sanctions and conduct requirements.
- Escalate complex or material underwriting, claims, payment or exposure issues as appropriate.
- Share Crisis Management underwriting expertise and provide technical guidance to colleagues and distribution partners.
- Contribute to team discussions, market intelligence and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, security developments and crisis response practices.
- Maintain appropriate Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and keep knowledge current.
- Support portfolio objectives, service standards and agreed business targets.
- Proven experience in Lloyd's or London Market underwriting.
- Relevant experience in Crisis Management or a closely related specialty insurance class.
- Strong understanding of general insurance principles, underwriting controls and portfolio management.
- Knowledge of London and international insurance market structures, placement processes and policy documentation.
- Understanding of premium, client and broker accounting and relevant insurance systems.
- Knowledge of specialist claims handling and crisis response arrangements, including the use and coordination of response partners.
- Strong understanding of Crisis Management exposures, coverage considerations, territorial risks, sanctions and risk aggregation.
- Demonstrable ability to make sound underwriting decisions within defined authority and appetite.
- Strong broker and client relationship management skills.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong commercial and business awareness, with a focus on delivering agreed results.
- University degree, preferably in a business-related discipline.
- ACII qualification or demonstrable progress towards completion.
- Experience working across international markets or complex multinational placements.
- Broader experience across related specialty insurance classes.
- Additional knowledge of crisis response, security or specialist risk management services.
