ÉireOcean-TWIN is a multidisciplinary research project that will deliver Ireland's first AI-enhanced Digital Twin of marine and coastal systems, establishing a next-generation platform for ocean data analytics, prediction, and decision support. The project integrates diverse marine datasets, including Earth Observation, seabed mapping, oceanographic observations, meteorological information, and numerical model outputs, into a dynamic, cloud-based Digital Twin capable of simulating Ireland's marine and coastal environment in four dimensions.
The research at University College Dublin (UCD) focuses on the development of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), GeoAI, and Digital Twin technologies to enable intelligent analysis of large-scale heterogeneous marine data. The project aims to develop scalable AI models for predicting coastal flooding, marine heatwaves, and other ocean processes, while integrating data from multiple national and European sources into a unified, interoperable platform. The Digital Twin will support scenario-based analysis, uncertainty-aware forecasting, and interactive decision-support tools for climate adaptation, marine spatial planning, offshore renewable energy, coastal resilience, and sustainable management of Ireland's marine environment.
