University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are excited to invite you to apply for our Band 5 Staff Nurse post within the Day Surgery Unit at Lewes Victoria Hospital.

If successful you will be part of the team at the Day Surgery Unit where we deliver high quality care and a range of surgeries for different specialities including - Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, Digestive diseases, Vascular and Maxillofacial.

The service currently runs Monday to Fr iday from 0700 to 2000. We arelooking for an enthusiastic Band 5Nurse to join our friendly, forward thinking team.

The post holder will complete an orientation period to the clinical area in accordance with the Trust's induction programme. You will also be supported in your on-going professional development.

There also may be the opportunity to develop within the theatre environment in the future.

There is also free parking on site

Main duties of the job To function within a team providing care and treatment to patient's undergoing surgery

I ncluding:
  • To work within the day surgery unit ward and pre assessment clinic delivering high quality evidence based care to patients.
Providing high quality evidence based clinical care to patients, in line with the Trust values and in accordance with professional regulations

Work ing with others to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of those in your care, their families and carers, and the wider community

To work in line with Trust policies, objectives , protocols, local and national guidelines

To act as a role model communicating in line with Trust values, to patients, carers and staff at all times .

Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the senior nurse in charge, recognising and working within the limits of your competence.

Take every opportunity to continue to maintain and develop your own practice.

Facilitate students and others to develop their competence through supervision, teaching and role modelling.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Expert Clinical Practice
  • To admit patients to the wards prior to surgery communicating with other members of the surgical and anaesthetic team any relevant information.
  • Undertake clinical competencies relevant to the nursing role.
  • To support staff when indicated in the management of challenging patients, families or situations.
  • To deal sensitively with patients and / or relatives / carers who may be exhibiting a high level of anxiety or aggression.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration or soon-to-qualify student currently in education.
  • Diploma or Degree level study
  • Mentorship Module or ENB 998 NVQ Assessor.
Experience
  • Knowledge of the Band 5 role.
  • Evidence of professional development since qualification.
  • Worked within a surgical department
  • Able to carry out pre operative assessments
