Specialty Doctor in Breast Surgery

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Breast Surgery Team at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust.
The unit presently has six Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon an Associate Specialist and two Specialist Doctors. All consultants perform various oncoplastic breast surgical procedures. In addition, two of the consultants also perform surgery for skin cancer. It is one of the largest units in the South West with the most up-to- date equipment, including body jet for Lipofilling. The unit performs autologous as well as ADM based breast reconstruction and has one of highest series of ADM based breast reconstruction in the country. There is a large research wing in breast surgery and the unit actively participates in many national and international trials. All micro-vascular surgery patients are referred to Exeter / Derriford. There is a weekly breast reconstruction and breast oncology MDT and a monthly family history MDT
Main duties of the job- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of breast surgery patients. To share with colleagues' responsibility for the day to day management of the breast surgical unit.
- Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students where applicable.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
- To attend meetings as appropriate.
- Fulfil duties of weekly timetable.

Job responsibilities- Work at an appropriate level in breast clinics and theatre and develop independent practice to cover leave as experience increases
- Any responsibility that relates to a special interest.
- Professional supervision of other junior medical staff.
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching.
- Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes, and in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Involvement in research (where applicable).
- Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate.
- A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.

Person Specification Qualifications- Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice.
- ST3 / 4 equivalent
- MRCS
- A minimum of three years as SHO or equivalent.
- Experience in and participation in departmental audit.
- Some independence in pursuing research goals.
- Experience working in busy outpatients and theatre. Ability to work unsupervised.
- Willingness to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate
- Flexibility
- Ability to establish good working relationships with staff and be able to communicate well with patients.
