We have an exciting new opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join University Hospitals Dorset. You will be working as part of the medical pharmacy team providing pharmacy services to respiratory and gastroenterology wards.
Our well established medical pharmacy team works closely with the clinical teams across the medical specialities to provide excellent clinical care, expert advice on medications, service developments, medicines optimisation and medicines governance. As a pharmacist in this role you will be embedded within the clinical team where you will be supported and encouraged to utilise your clinical skills and knowledge to improve pharmacy services to the medical care group.
You will be supported in your personal development and will be actively encouraged to evolve your clinical, professional and leadership skills through coaching, mentoring and by completing training courses and formal qualifications.
Weekend shifts 1 in 5 (either Saturday or Sunday) and approximately one Bank Holiday shift per year.
This role requires GPhC Registration.
Base Location: Cross site working at Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital.

Main Duties of the Job- Patient Centred Care: Provide a patient focused and clinically competent pharmacy service to inpatient medical wards, working directly with patients and contributing to their care.
- Team Development: Work with and develop rotational pharmacists, technicians, and trainees within medicine, supporting their professional and clinical skills.
- Clinical Guidance and Practice: Contribute to the development of clinical guidance and ensure that pharmacy practices align with national guidelines. Implement cost saving measures, develop and review patient group directions (PGDs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) where necessary.
- Integration and Collaboration: Integrate secondary care services within the broader NHS Dorset Healthcare system, collaborate with other healthcare professionals and contribute to the overall patient care strategy.
- Service Development: Play a role in the ongoing development of pharmacy services within medicine, suggesting improvements, streamlining processes and staying updated with best practices.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Act as a role model and pharmacy ambassador, demonstrate leadership qualities, and mentor and line manage rotational pharmacists, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.
UHD is investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Person Specification Qualifications- Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or evidence of equivalent experience
- Non Medical Prescribing qualification or prepared to train for this
- Pharmacist registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Membership of a professional organisation (e.g. RPS, UKCPA)
- Experienced hospital pharmacist with evidence of routinely managing own clinical workload alongside project work
- Experience of working within medical specialties
- Clinical audit / Drug Use Review project experience
- Delivering education and training
- Experience of leading a team
- Experience of service development
- Supervising and developing staff
- Good organisational abilities and able to prioritise work
- Ability to provide complex advice and guidance requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of clinical options
- Good clinical knowledge of current therapeutics and pharmacy practice
