Solicitor - Property Specialist

• Hourly Rate: £40-£60
• Location: Haywards Heath
• Job Type: Contract (6 Months+)

We are seeking a Solicitor specialising in property law to join our Legal Services team. This role involves providing expert legal advice and representation across the Council, contributing to the delivery of our Legal Team's Service Plan and the Council's Corporate Plan. This position offers a dynamic work environment where you will act as a trusted adviser and handle a variety of property-related legal matters.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Provide legal advice, representation, and assistance to Council Members and staff, including at public meetings.
• Manage an ongoing legal caseload with a focus on property matters including acquisitions, disposals, and landlord and tenant issues.
• Negotiate and complete property transactions on behalf of the Council.
• Assist in advising on Assets of Community Value, best value disposals, and Subsidy Control.
• Represent the Council in legal proceedings, including advocacy when required.
• Attend statutory meetings and contribute to the structuring of property deals.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Fully qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a relevant professional qualification.
• Proven experience in managing legal matters within a property specialism.
• Experience within a local government legal team is desirable.
• Knowledge of the local government statutory framework and relevant legislation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to scrutinize new legislation, work on own initiative, and manage workload within set deadlines.
• Understanding of the political nature of local government and the democratic process is desirable.
