EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe's latest high speed rail projects. The Soil Scientist will audit the stockpiling, management, handling and auditing of topsoil and subsoil stockpiles to satisfy the contract requirements. This will include working with and directing the site team in these operations and recording information about the soil and its management.
You will be responsible for assessment of stockpiled soil condition (limited to physical characteristics such as plasticity and soil storage/handling practices), inspection of soil reconditioning windrows, inspection of restored soil profiles and ITP review, and the provision of soil condition reports detailing the restoration works undertaken.
You will have an understanding of the engineering/construction requirements and methodology of a large construction scheme, ability to work independently and make decisions, and to understand lines of communication on site. Confidence and experience to work with contractors, providing direction and advice as necessary, and offering practical solutions where required. Lead soil scientists/practitioners carrying out soil surveys shall have experience of field surveys and recording the natural physical properties of soils.
Key Skills and Qualifications- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in soil science, geography, geology or other relevant environmental discipline.
- Member of the British Society of Soil Science (M.I. Soil Sci).
- Professional soil scientist with competence in Agricultural Land Classification (ALC).
- A track record in soil science research or application - preferably on infrastructure projects.
- Proficient using GIS systems and MS Office productivity packages.
- Sound knowledge of soils and how to identify soil types on site, including ALC grade.
- A logical approach to soil surveying and recording the in situ profile.
- Proficient in the use of IT.
- Current CSCS card holder.
- Driving licence is required for this role.
