About

Public authorities manage several databases in which certain personal data of citizens are collected. This data allows them to carry out their daily tasks. In the interest of transparency and to strengthen citizens' trust, institutions provide an overview of the data they process about citizens.

The team is dedicated to building the Web Portal but also to developing an ecosystem of data sources that can potentially be reused by other projects. As part of Belgium's largest data-transparency initiative, you will contribute to the evolution and strategic direction of the MyData service suite.

Position Overview

The Senior Software Developer - Java Backend will design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable Back End services. He/She collaborates with the Solution Architect, the Project Manager and the Service Managers to shape the technical and strategic roadmap of the MyData ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Back End services with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Implement REST APIs, security (OAuth2, JWT, LDAP), and key management.
• Design threadsafe, performant code with concurrency best practices.
• Manage PostgreSQL databases and align APIs with data models.
• Set up logging/monitoring (ELK, Zabbix) and distributed caching (Hazelcast).
• Use GitLab CI/CD and Jenkins pipelines for builds and deployments.
• Deploy with Docker/Podman in OpenShift environments.
• Collaborate with architects, Front End, QA, and project managers in Agile teams.
• Document designs, pipelines, and processes in JIRA/Confluence.
• Apply DDD, secure coding, clean code, and testing best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Java Back End development.
• Solid expertise in Spring Boot 3.x and Java 17/21.
• Good understanding of concurrency, Multithreading, and performance tuning.
• Experience in building REST APIs with secure authentication and clean design.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL database integration and SQL optimization.
• Hands-on experience managing secure keys, TLS certs, and auth frameworks.
• Experience using GitLab (VCS and CI/CD) and Jenkins.
• Familiarity with Docker/Podman and deploying services in OpenShift-style environments.
• Experience with ELK logging, Zabbix monitoring, and Hazelcast caching.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Knowledgeable in Agile methodologies, DDD, testing best practices, and clean code standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in public sector or civic tech projects.
• Good knowledge of domain-driven design and secure architectures.
• Experience with large-scale microservices.
• Familiarity with observability tooling and infrastructure-as-code.
• Proficiency with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
