Altera delivers cutting-edge custom logic solutions across a wide spectrum of customer markets. We are looking to expand our European Applications Engineering team with a senior and motivated SoC embedded FPGA applications engineer to help our customers develop and implement innovative solutions.

As a senior embedded applications engineer you will serve as a technical subject matter expert for ARM CPU systems and soft cores on SoC FPGAs and provide customer enabling solutions and technical support to enable our key European customers to successfully meet market demands. Your specific role will include the following:

  • Provide technical support for Altera's key European customer base in the design, implementation and debugging of FPGA designs for embedded systems using Altera and third-party design software (e.g. Quartus, RiscFreeIDE, etc).
  • Collaborate with field engineering, factory applications to prioritize resolution of critical customer issues.
  • Partner with Product Marketing and Product Planning teams to drive strategic, innovative solutions aligned with customer needs and market opportunities
  • Test and support Altera's open-source software offerings such as U-Boot, Linux, Arm Trusted Firmware, LibRSU for ARM CPU cores focusing on SoC FPGA devices
  • Work collaboratively with firmware and software developers for SoC FPGA boot up, device configuration and early system initialization
  • Develop example device drivers for SoC FPFA peripherals for test and verification purpose
  • Develop technical collateral including reference designs and presentations to demonstrate Altera products for both internal and external audiences.
  • Test and develop example designs for RISC-V based soft cores on SoC FPGAs
  • Evaluate new features, perform corner-case testing, and demonstrate performance to key European customers.
  • Stay up to date with latest advancements in Linux kernel, Arm Trusted Firmware, Yocto and ARM / RISC-V architectures
  • Challenge established approaches and drive forward-thinking initiatives
  • Share knowledge in internal forums and actively encourage a culture of continuous learning and collaboration
  • Mentor junior team members and support their professional growth

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS in Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of working with Linux / Bootloaders on SoC FPGAs / Embedded Systems
  • Demonstrate an understanding of ARM CPU and RISC-V architecture targeting SoC FPGAs
  • Expertise in C programming
  • Advanced English

Preferred Experience:

  • Design experience using industry standard SoC FPGAs; understanding of SoC to FPGA bridges and interconnects
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of memory sub systems connected to SoC FPGA
  • Proficiency of bash / shell programming for task automation and use of UNIX environment
  • Strong analytical abilities with a creative and structured approach to problem solving and/or using ARM DS / RiscFree IDE
