Job Description

Senior Safety Engineer - Electrical

Location: RG7 4PR, between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking. Due to the classified nature of the work, limited remote work is available. The successful candidate will predominantly work on site at AWE Aldermaston.

Package: £47,690 - £70,000 (dependent on suitability, qualifications, and experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. Flexible working requests are considered-please specify your preferred pattern in your application.

Role Overview:

AWE is recruiting several Senior Electrical Safety Engineers to join our Electrical Safety Team within the Engineering Safety Organisation, providing complex professional engineering judgement for technical safety implementation.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing standards of competence for Electrical Engineering Safety Appointed personnel such as Authorised Persons and Nominated Persons.
  2. Reviewing electrical safe systems of work for maintenance compliance by AWE and contractors.
  3. Reviewing legislative records related to engineering safety.
  4. Advising on the safe implementation of engineering safety and making judgements within your authority.
  5. Overseeing supply chain contractors' application of engineering safety.
  6. Providing technical support for resolving complex safety issues.
  7. Supporting the development and operation of the Engineering Safety Organisation.

Desired experience includes:

  1. Strong electrical engineering background.
  2. Knowledge of The Electricity at Work Regulations, BS 7671, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations; familiarity with construction site safety standards (HSG141, DSEAR) is desirable.
  3. Understanding of relevant British and Industry Standards.
  4. Qualifications such as Level 4/HNC/HND or equivalent, or EngTech MIET.
  5. Experience in maintaining electrical building services.
  6. Possession or previous holding of an Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person appointment is preferred.
  7. Ability to operate across manufacturing or research environments with infrastructure and plant.
  8. Experience with large civil construction projects is advantageous.
  9. Experience in risk identification, management, and reporting to senior management.
  10. Experience leading engineering services across an asset's lifecycle.
