The Role
As aSenior Human Factors Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a unique opportunity to influence the design and integration of systems that are vital to national defence, ensuring they are intuitive, safe, and effective for the people who operate and maintain them.
Day-to-day, you'll join our growing team, supporting the development of communication systems, weapon systems, and other complex, safety-critical technologies.
- Lead and deliver Human Factors Integration (HFI) activities across multiple high-profile defence programmes.
- Apply human-centred design principles to ensure systems are operable, maintainable, and safe.
- Conduct task analysis, workload assessments, usability evaluations, and human error analysis.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, designers, and end-users to shape system requirements and interfaces.
- Support safety cases and regulatory compliance through robust HF evidence and documentation.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of HF capability within the business.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and requires travel across a range of Babcock sites across the UK when the business demands alongside home working arrangements.
Essential Experience of the Senior Human Factors Engineer
- Proven experience of applying HF principles and methods in defence, aerospace, or similarly complex domains.
- Familiarity with defence standards (e.g., DEF STAN 00-251, JSP 912) and HFI frameworks.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications for the Senior Human Factors Engineer
- Degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, or a related discipline.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
