Senior Clinical Fellow - Organ Donation

We are recruiting for a 12 month Senior Clinical Fellow post in Organ Donation within Adult Critical Care at Nottingham University Hospitals from August 2026.
Eligibility: Doctors who hold Full/limited registration with the GMC and who have completed a minimum of two years' post Foundation training and possess either the Primary FRCA or equivalent (eg MRCP(UK), MRCEM). One year of anaesthetics experience and three months of critical care experience is essential. The post suits doctors who wish to develop their CV prior to entering ST3 posts or as OOPE or before taking up a consultant post. Paid time is granted to develop an interest in organ donation. The appointee will cover the adult critical care approximately 50% of the time. Prior experience of working in the NHS is a prerequisite for this post.
Responsibilities- Participate in on calls on the Senior (Airway) Critical Care rota-50% of time. The remainder devoted to developing a specialist interest in Organ Donation.
- Lead other trainees and fellows out of hours under the leadership of the Duty Critical Care Consultant on call.
- Conduct clinical duties at both Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital.
- Tailor the post to individual training needs where possible.
- Register with the college of parent specialty and keep a logbook of experience.
- Undergo regular appraisal and develop a learning plan and portfolio.
- Conceive and plan a substantial project in organ donation or clinical research before commencing the post, in discussion with the appropriate supervisor.
- Submit the project for publication or presentation at a national/international meeting.
- Ensure the post is EWTD compliant.
- MB ChB or equivalent. Full/limited GMC registration.
- Successful completion of FY2 training in an NHS setting plus two years of post foundation training in acute specialities (Anaesthesia, Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine or ICM).
- Primary FRCA or equivalent higher qualification, ALS or equivalent accredited life support course, ATLS or other trauma course.
- Twelve months' Anaesthetics & three months' Critical Care experience AND prior experience of NHS based anaesthetics or ICU experience.
- Completion of Stage 1 Critical Care Training and experience of senior on call roles in acute specialties.
- Completion of audit cycle or quality improvement project with published research.
- Other evidence of academic achievement including additional qualifications, prizes.
- Ability to stabilise the deteriorating patient including intubation and initiation of organ support.
- Competence in bronchoscopy, lung ultrasound, focused echocardiography.
- Evidence of continuous career development, including attendance at meetings/courses.
- Attendance at meetings/courses/member of professional bodies.
- Good written communication, successful team worker, sensitivity to needs of patients and colleagues.
- Formal Human Factors training.
- Punctuality, professional appearance and attitudes consistent with GMC guidelines.
- Demonstrates non medical interests/activities.
