Senior Azure Cloud Security Architect/770 Euros per day

Excellent freelance opportunity for an experienced Senior Azure Cloud Security Architect with deep expertise in Azure cloud security, platform architecture, and governance.

Hybrid - 50% onsite in Haren, Netherlands

In this role, you will lead the design and evolution of secure Azure cloud platforms, defining security architectures, governance guardrails, and platform standards across identity, networking, data protection, and workloads. You will work closely with cloud, security, and platform engineering teams to ensure security is Embedded throughout platform design, automation, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Define Azure cloud security architecture, standards, and governance.
• Design secure Azure landing zones and platform security baselines.
• Develop security policies, guardrails, and compliance controls.
• Architect secure identity, access management, networking, and data protection solutions.
• Review cloud platform and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CI/CD) designs from a security perspective.
• Conduct cloud security risk assessments and support audit and compliance initiatives.
• Produce architecture documentation and security governance artefacts.
• Collaborate with architecture, engineering, security, and operations teams to deliver secure cloud platforms.

Required Skills & Experience

• Extensive Azure cloud architecture experience with a strong focus on security.
• Expertise in Azure Landing Zones, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Key Vault, Azure Firewall, WAF, and secure networking.
• Strong understanding of Zero Trust, least privilege, identity governance, encryption, key management, and cloud security best practices.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and secure CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of enterprise security frameworks and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• 4-year university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years' experience defining cloud security architecture, standards, and governance for large enterprise environments.
