BSL SEN Teaching Assistant (Level 2+)

Location: Stevenage, HertfordshireContract: Full-time 12-week Temp-to-PermStart: September 2026

A highly regarded specialist SEN school in Stevenage is seeking a dedicated BSL SEN Teaching Assistant (Level 2 or above) to support a hearing-impaired pupil on a 1:1 basis. This is a full-time, 12-week temp-to-perm opportunity within a well-resourced, therapeutic SEN setting that supports pupils with complex and profound needs.

About the School

The school caters for children and young people with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties, operating with a strong focus on communication, independence, and holistic development. Staff work closely with therapists and families to provide consistent, child-centred support in a calm and nurturing environment.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 support for a hearing-impaired pupil throughout the school day
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication, learning and engagement
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs
  • Work closely with teachers, speech and language therapists, and support staff
  • Support emotional regulation, independence, and social interaction
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a Teaching Assistant qualification Level 2 or above (or equivalent experience)
  • BSL qualification essential (Level 1 minimum, Level 2+ preferred)
  • Experience working with SEN pupils, ideally within a specialist setting
  • Patient, nurturing, and highly consistent in their approach
  • Committed to a full-time, long-term role with a view to going permanent
