Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Security Operations (SecOps) Engineer to support one of the UK's most technically complex and secure government cloud services programmes. Reporting to the SecOps Lead, you will help ensure that security controls, operational procedures, and practices remain compliant with the Government Security Classifications framework and Home Office security policies.

You will contribute to the continuous improvement of security operations, support secure delivery across cloud and digital services, and promote a strong security culture across the programme. This role is ideal for a security professional looking to work in a high-assurance public sector environment with significant technical depth and operational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update Security Operating Procedures (SyOps) and information security management policies
  • Review solution designs, technical documentation, and implementation plans for security compliance
  • Conduct threat modelling to identify risks and inform secure design decisions
  • Provide assurance over patching, releases, and change activities
  • Perform and review vulnerability scans and contribute to remediation planning
  • Assess threat intelligence and recommend mitigation actions
  • Investigate security incidents and ensure accurate reporting and follow-up
  • Create and manage ITHC remediation action plans and track progress to closure
  • Support certificate management and cryptographic control processes
  • Review digital access requests and support Joiner/Mover/Leaver processes
  • Maintain security-related Kanban board tickets
  • Contribute to security awareness and training initiatives

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years' experience in SecOps, Information Security, or Security Consulting roles
  • British citizen with eligibility for SC and NPPV3 clearance
  • Strong understanding of Home Office security policies, processes, and governance
  • Experience supporting secure government cloud or digital transformation programmes
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining security policies and procedures
  • Hands-on experience investigating security incidents and vulnerabilities
  • Experience delivering security awareness and training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
