Job Description
Teacher of Science (Physics and/or Chemistry Specialist)

Position advertised on 13 February 2026. The appointed teacher will join Haberdashers' Crayford Academy - an enhanced London Living Wage employer - as a full time, permanent member of the Science Department.

Salary: £37,928 - £56,217 (Enhanced MPS/UPS plus Outer London Allowance), Hours per week: Full time, Location: Iron Mill Lane, Crayford, DA1 4RS.

Overview

We seek a passionate teacher of Science to inspire pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. Candidates with a specialist focus in Physics and/or Chemistry are preferred, but a strong ability to deliver all three sciences is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach engaging, differentiated, and curriculum aligned lessons in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Support the Head of Department in developing the Science curriculum and maintaining a high profile for the subject.
  • Plan, deliver, and assess lessons, ensuring timely marking and feedback.
  • Use performance data to track student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver innovative schemes of work.
  • Contribute to assessment of internal and external examinations and support student examination preparation.
  • Provide targeted intervention where required and promote inclusive learning practices.
  • Adhere to Trust policies on safeguarding, equality, and professional standards.
  • Attend staff briefings, training, insets and cover lessons when necessary.
  • Participate in extracurricular clubs, competitions and school events.
Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • UK qualified teaching status and degree standard.
  • Substantial secondary school teaching experience ( 5 years).
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons for varied ability.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and the ability to use data to raise attainment.
  • Positive student behaviour management and an inclusive approach.
  • Strong communication, literacy and organisational skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Specialist qualification or teaching experience in Physics or Chemistry.
  • Experience working in a Multi Academy setting.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire both students and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Recruitment Process
