Job Description

School Receptionist and Administration Assistant

Ryecroft School, Walsall, West Midlands, WS2 7BH

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm

Salary: Up to £24,000 per annum (depending on experience; not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent - Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

About the Role

At Ryecroft School, we're looking for a welcoming and proactive Receptionist & Administration Assistant to become the heart of our school community. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. From greeting visitors and supporting safeguarding processes to keeping the school office running smoothly, you'll play a vital part in helping our pupils thrive.

Ryecroft School is a specialist independent school supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and additional complex needs. Every member of our team contributes to creating a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment where young people can achieve their full potential.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Be the first point of contact for visitors, parents, professionals and external agencies, creating a warm and professional welcome.
  • Manage the busy school reception, telephone enquiries, visitor sign in processes and safeguarding procedures.
  • Support the day to day administration of the school, including correspondence, filing, data entry and document preparation.
  • Maintain school systems, registers, calendars, email inboxes and pupil records accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with attendance monitoring, including contacting parents/carers regarding pupil absences.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing post, deliveries, stationery supplies and office resources.
  • Support the Office Manager and wider school team with a variety of administrative projects and tasks.
  • Help maintain a safe, organised and professional environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
About You
  • Has a friendly, approachable and professional manner with excellent customer service skills.
  • Is a confident communicator, both verbally and in writing, and can handle sensitive conversations with professionalism.
  • Has strong IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other office systems.
  • Is highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and work accurately under pressure.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and building positive relationships across the school community.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Has previous experience working within an administrative or office based role (minimum three years preferred).
  • Has empathy, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people with additional needs.
  • Experience working within an educational setting.
  • Full UK driving licence.
