Position Overview

We're looking for a technical R&D Engineering Lead to drive innovation and delivery across our research and development initiatives. This is a hybrid role that blends hands-on full-stack and AI engineering with project and team leadership responsibilities.

You'll lead a growing team of 3+ engineers, work closely with our CTO and Product Manager, and ensure that institutional projects (ESA, Horizon Europe, etc.) are translated into robust, scalable software capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical depth, team coordination, and project execution in research-driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute projects with rigor in processes, focusing on results and final delivery to clients.

• Take ownership of the projects department to deliver successful solutions executing and supervising

• Develop full stack applications. Design and implement software components across the stack (front-end, back-end, APIs, cloud, AI services)

• Coordinate with the Product Manager to align research and development goals with roadmap priorities

• Prepare comprehensive reports and user-friendly documentation that translate technical findings into actionable insights for clients.

• Ensure technical excellence, reproducibility, and integration of research outputs into production systems

• Support proposal writing and technical input for R&D funding programmes (ESA, CDTI, Horizon Europe, etc.)

• Interface with external partners, research centers, and institutions as technical representative

Qualifications

• Proven 5+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally Full Stack
• Proven track record in managing R&D or innovation projects, preferably in institutional settings
• Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript, cloud-based deployment, AI/ML pipelines)
• Proficiency developing HTML, CSS and Javascript frontends, with Sveltekit, Tailwind or similar, Python backends, with FastAPI or similar.
• Experience with databases, such as MongoDB.
• Experience with Docker and Docker Compose.
• Experience with cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Experience with Cloud services such as S3, Docker Registry, etc.
• Understanding of EO data and satellite imagery is highly valued
• Fluent in English; Spanish and/or Catalan are a plus

Hiring process

The candidate will be asked to solve a technical challenge. After its completion, at least 2 interviews will be preformed (with CTO and CEO, respectively).
