The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders to support a specialist Eating Disorders Service in the East Midlands.
This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00 schedule, providing structured and consistent work within a dedicated multidisciplinary team. It is ideally suited to experienced consultants with expertise in eating disorders psychiatry who are confident managing complex cases and delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care.
You will provide senior clinical leadership across the service, overseeing patient care, supporting multidisciplinary colleagues, and ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment for individuals experiencing a range of eating disorders.

- Provide consultant-level leadership within a specialist Eating Disorders Service
- Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with eating disorders
- Take clinical responsibility for patients presenting with complex eating disorder conditions, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and atypical eating disorders
- Lead multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and care planning discussions
- Work collaboratively with psychologists, dietitians, nursing staff, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals
- Support nutritional rehabilitation plans and risk management strategies alongside the wider MDT
- Assess and manage psychiatric and physical health risks associated with eating disorders
- Provide expert clinical advice regarding treatment pathways, recovery planning, and relapse prevention
- Prepare Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunal hearings where required
- Supervise junior doctors and contribute to medical education and professional development
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
- Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, clinical care, and professional practice
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent qualification (CESR)
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility for inclusion
- Section 12 Approval
- Approved Clinician Status (highly desirable)
- Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within Eating Disorders Psychiatry
- Experience managing complex eating disorder presentations in inpatient and/or community settings
- Strong understanding of physical health monitoring and risk management in patients with eating disorders
- Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with Mental Health Act assessments, tribunal reports, and statutory processes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
