Portfolio Strategy & Value Lead

The Portfolio Strategy and Value Lead is responsible for shaping and implementing a Value and Benefits framework that drives strategic decision making across a complex change and transformation portfolio. The leadership role oversees a team Portfolio Performance Managers that are aligned to/embedded within Value Streams or Hub Portfolios and closely partners with central Finance to drive change excellence.
You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, PMO, Finance, change functions, and delivery teams to embed an OKR Management framework, whilst driving maximum portfolio value and return on investment for a large and complex portfolio of change. This role combines strategic thinking, value management, and people leadership to ensure maximum portfolio value, strategic alignment, across a hybrid portfolio environment.
What You'll Do
Strategy & Planning
- Define and implement a portfolio value management strategy that supports executive decision-making, benefits realisation, and enterprise-level planning.
- Management of strategic planning cycles across change portfolios to ensure financial investment decisions support long-term business strategy, risk appetite and align to future business/customer needs.
- Assist with annual budgeting and planning activity.
- Championing the shift to Lean Portfolio Management to drive strategic alignment, faster value delivery, and smarter investment decisions.
Value & Benefits Management
- Develop and support the evolution of a benefits realisation framework by partnering with our central Finance team.
- Create and manage an enterprise portfolio benefit map against investment, programme delivery, interdependencies, and realisation plans.
- Development of business cases and benefit validation to support transformation, strategic initiatives and to support fast-paced business responses to emerging threats and opportunities.
- Identifies and drives prioritisation of projects/initiatives within the portfolio to maximise the overall value generated on overall portfolio investment
Leadership & Management
- Leads, coaches and motivates a team of Portfolio Performance Managers that are aligned and embedded into Value Streams or hub Portfolios.
- Build capability and consistency of value management across the business by coaching, supporting and bringing our colleagues on the journey.
- Partner with senior leaders and delivery teams to drive alignment of strategy to execution.
Performance & Reporting
- Ensure the portfolio's projects and initiatives are aligned with the organisation's strategic goals and objectives (OKRs).
- Tracks the performance of the portfolio against key performance indicators (KPIs) and makes adjustments as needed.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and OKR frameworks to track performance, risk, and delivery outcomes.
Governance & Risk
- Identifies, records and supports mitigation of enterprise-level portfolio risks.
- Monitor and maintain financial records to agreed requirements for compliance and audit.
- Support the Portfolio with continuous improvement of all governance and processes, removing duplication and waste and identifying opportunities to introduce lean principles.

What You'll Bring
We're looking for a forward-thinking leader who can connect the dots between our data, people, and strategy. Specifically, we're looking for someone with:
- Experience with strategic portfolio management or relevant experience, ideally within Insurance/Financial Services, technology functions and working with C-level executives.
- Detailed understanding of financial & strategy planning.
- Leading SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) / Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) qualification.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of PMO methodologies, tools, and best practices. Supported by Management of Portfolios (MOP) / P30 or Similar qualification.
- A demonstrable record of benefits identification, monitoring, management and realisation across a large portfolio of change.
- Execution of strategic planning and maximising of portfolio value.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the infrastructure technology landscape and industry.
- Excellent Communication, organisation & presentation skills.
- Experience of developing and enhancing team strategies that are focused on benefit, value and maximising resources.
- Strong commercial knowledge.

Location
This is a remote role with a requirement to attend our Cardiff office once a quarter.
