Contract: Permanent
Salary: £25,272 per annum

Shift Pattern: 10am-10pm x4, 4 off repeated
Main duties of the job- Provide a portering service to all wards & departments. Escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley.
- Distribute food trolleys and boxes - and food items.
- Transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments.
- Collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department.
- Move & change medical gas cylinders as requested.
- Attend fire calls and assist at cardiac arrests.
- Transport records, X rays, furniture, equipment and materials.
- Undertake mortuary duties as required - viewings, BIDs.
- Report any suspicious incidents and assist where necessary.
- Assist with low level security requests.
- Cover staff in the post room - sorting incoming and outgoing mail, distributing to all wards and departments.
- Collect general clinical, waste - cytotoxic refuse and sharp boxes from all areas on site if required.
- Attend mandatory training courses.
- Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect.
- Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
- Book taxis when needed & keep clear records of requests, especially the full name of the person who has authorised it.
- Attendance at all sessions is mandatory - moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training, dealing with conflict, safe handling of medical gases, liquid nitrogen.

Person specification Qualification(s) and Professional Training- A good standard of education
- Basic IT skills
- Dealing with the public in a customer facing role
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to adapt approach to suit the needs of the person/situation
- 1 year's experience within a hospital setting
- Ability to prioritise departmental workload
- Awareness of Trust policies and guidelines
- Ability to work within a busy and demanding department
- Demonstrate good practice and knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Ability to deal with conflict
