Job Description
Policy Advisor - Weddings & Marriage

Position: HEO level, permanent, cross government, under the Civil, Family, Tribunals and Administration of Justice Directorate.

Location: 102 Petty France, London (hybrid model with 5 Wellington Place Leeds). Remote work limited to the UK only.

Working pattern: full time, part time or job share.

Role Overview

The role is part of a major reform to modernise marriage law. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and advancing policy proposals for weddings and marriage law.
  • Engaging with stakeholders across the government, including the Home Office and MHCLG.
  • Co ordinating with registry services, religious groups and frontline practitioners to gather operational insights.
  • Managing a high volume of work and delivering briefings to ministers and senior officials.
  • Participating in pre legislative scrutiny and drafting primary or secondary legislation.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong relationship building and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working in a policy environment and navigating government processes.
  • Excellent written and oral briefing skills.
  • Organisational skills to manage multiple assignments at pace.
  • Experience of working on primary or secondary legislation.

Interview
