Job Description

JOB TITLE - TOWN PLANNER

LOCATION - EXETER

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected planning and heritage consultancy in their search for a Town Planner to join their team in Exeter.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist consultancy working across a diverse portfolio of projects including residential, rural, and heritage-led developments. The successful Town Planner will gain valuable experience across both planning and heritage considerations within a collaborative and supportive environment.

THE ROLE

You will be involved in delivering planning projects from initial appraisal through to submission and determination, supporting a wide range of clients.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with both planning and heritage professionals, making it ideal for a Town Planner looking to broaden their expertise and work on sensitive and high-quality developments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Preparing and managing planning applications and appeals
  • Assisting with heritage statements and impact assessments
  • Undertaking site appraisals and planning feasibility assessments
  • Preparing planning statements and supporting documentation
  • Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, conservation officers, and stakeholders
  • Supporting senior team members on complex and heritage-led projects
  • Attending site visits, client meetings, and consultations
  • Conducting planning and heritage policy research
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Working towards MRTPI (or recently achieved)
  • Experience within a planning consultancy or local authority environment
  • Good understanding of UK planning policy and heritage legislation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A proactive and collaborative approach
