An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (Band 8a) to join the Paediatric Community Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team at James Paget Hospital. We are a specialist multi disciplinary team, who are passionate about developing services and completing high quality and clinically rigorous assessments. We cover the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area.
You will play a key role in our newly launched Neurodevelopmental (NDD) pathways, offering assessment, formulation, and diagnosis for children and young people with neurodiverse presentations, including Autism, ADHD, and associated developmental needs.
Main duties of the jobComplete specialist psychological assessments as part of multi disciplinary NDD diagnostic pathways.
Contribute expert formulation to support accurate, compassionate, timely diagnoses.
Work closely with paediatricians, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and education partners.
Provide consultation, supervision and psychological input across the wider community paediatrics service.
Support pathway development, quality improvement and evidence based practice as the service grows.
Work collaboratively with families, listening to their experiences and advocating for their needs.

This post could either be appointed as a Band 7 preceptorship working towards an 8a position, or at an 8a depending upon skills and experience. Responsibilities and supervision will be adjusted accordingly.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications- Professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
- Eligible for Full Membership of the BPS Division of Clinical Psychology.
- Pre qualification training and qualifications in other fields of applied psychology
- Post qualification training in approaches and therapies appropriate for the Neurodevelopmental context e.g. working with attachment, trauma, systems/ family therapy and bereavement
- Specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
- Undertaking psychological assessment and interventions relating Neurodevelopmental service area
- Working with a wide variety of patient groups within this specialism, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
- Representing psychology within the context of multidisciplinary care.
- Working clinically in health and medical settings relevant to service area.
- Working effectively with other professionals in multidisciplinary settings.
- Experience working psychologically with a client group or in a setting relevant to Neurodevelopmental Psychology e.g. Paediatrics, Infant mental health, working with families, Perinatal or Maternity settings.
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts
- Experience of line managing psychological staff
- Experience of working through an interpreter
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment intervention and management.
- Highly developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
- Good time management and prioritisation skills
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non professional groups.
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
