Locum General Practitioner with interest in Breast Cancer

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking an experienced General Practitioner with a Specialist Interest (GPwSI) to join an innovative, menopause and endocrine toxicity focused breast cancer survivorship service.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of personalised follow-up care for people living with and beyond breast cancer. The post holder will work in close collaboration with a Specialist Nurse, breast oncology consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care for patients experiencing endocrine therapy side effects and treatment-induced menopause.

Main duties of the job

Deliver GP-led and joint GP/nurse-led clinics focused on endocrine therapy toxicity and menopause-related symptoms for people affected by breast cancer.

Undertake comprehensive clinical assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management of endocrine therapy side effects and treatment-induced menopause within agreed protocols.

Prescribe and deprescribe treatments as appropriate, including non-hormonal and supportive therapies, in line with local and national guidance.

Provide holistic, person-centred care addressing physical, psychological and quality-of-life concerns.

Identify, manage and escalate complex or atypical cases in collaboration with oncology consultants and the wider MDT.

Contribute to MDT discussions and shared decision-making regarding ongoing cancer treatment, follow-up and survivorship care.

Job responsibilities

To develop and deliver a comprehensive specialist survivorship service for patients receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy for early breast cancer, with a focus on the assessment and management of treatment-related toxicities and menopause-related symptoms. The role aims to improve quality of life, support treatment adherence and strengthen integration between oncology services, primary care and community services.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications

• GMC registration with licence to practise
• Completion of GP training (CCT or equivalent)
• Evidence of ongoing CPD and annual appraisal
• Formal training or qualifications in women's health, menopause or cancer survivorship
• Portfolio or experience supporting GPwSI practice

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced knowledge of cancer survivorship issues, particularly endocrine therapy toxicity and treatment-induced menopause
• Understanding of breast cancer treatments and their long-term effects
• Knowledge of clinical governance, audit and quality improvement
• Understanding of integrated care systems and interface working between primary and secondary care
• Specialist knowledge of menopause management in women with a history of breast cancer

Audit

• Understanding of principles of clinical audit
• Demonstrate Audit and publications

Language

• Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
• Advanced communication certificate

Academic achievements including research/publications

• Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

• Significant post-qualification experience as a General Practitioner
• Experience managing complex long-term conditions

• Experience working within oncology, cancer follow-up or survivorship services
• Experience delivering GPwSI or extended-role services
• Excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently within agreed governance structures
• Ability to influence, lead and collaborate across organisational boundaries
• Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred and equitable care
