Job Title: Strategic Intelligence Researcher - National Knife Crime Centre

Starting Salary: £36,228 (includes allowances totalling £3,009). Basic salary: £33,219, rising annually to a top of £35,541. Includes a £2,009 location allowance and a £1,000 non pensionable allowance.

Location: Hybrid, nationally within the UK with 3 days in a central London police estate.

Contract: Fixed Term for 2 years, potential extension subject to funding and performance.

National Knife Crime Centre (NKCC)

The NKCC is the National Policing response to tackling knife crime through coordinating operational activity, optimising strategic partnerships, innovating new methodologies, and assisting the development of new legislation. The centre addresses the supply of knives through official or rogue sellers, often illegally to children, and connects industry, social media, tech, and law enforcement.

This multi functional role combines investigative support and enforcement activity in the online space, tracks, logs, and reports NKCC activity, supports caseload management, maintains liaison with forces nationally for case development, and takes personal responsibility for training, development, and stakeholder briefing.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate online knife sales activity and coordinate with partner agencies.
  • Track, log, and report NKCC activity to senior leadership.
  • Support caseload management and liaise with national forces for case development.
  • Deliver training and development for staff and brief key stakeholders on NKCC activity.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance strategic intelligence.
Qualifications
  • Keen interest in current affairs and world events with an understanding of wider government intelligence strategies.
  • Experience with or knowledge of popular social media platforms.
  • Inquisitive nature with a determination to seek information from a variety of sources.
  • Confidence working independently or as part of a larger team.
  • Ability to organise workload and meet changing deadlines.

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e level before taking up the post.

Additional Information

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required. The Metropolitan Police manage HR for NPCC recruitment.
