Locum Paediatric Neurologist with an interest in Epilepsy

The Evelina London Children's Hospital is seeking a locum consultant to support the neurology department in providing acute inpatient and long term outpatient care to children with neurological disorders. The role will play a major part in delivering complex epilepsy services across Evelina London and the South East Thames Epilepsy Network.

Main duties
  • Attend general paediatric neurology and complex epilepsy clinics at Evelina London and support the regional clinic model providing referral pathways for children with epilepsy.
  • Maintain expertise in paediatric neurology and contribute to the strategic direction of the Children's Neuroscience Department.
  • Participate in the paediatric neurology on call rota (approximately 1 week in 9), including non resident supervision during on call weeks.
Person Specification Professional Qualifications
  • On the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatric Neurology or within six months of attaining CCT or equivalent.
  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
Clinical Experience
  • Experience working in a paediatric neuroscience centre with a 24/7 acute neurology service.
  • Experience delivering services in a complex epilepsy centre.
  • Consultant level experience meeting the essential criteria.
Clinical Skills
  • Management of acute and chronic neurological conditions, particularly epilepsy.
  • Experience in multi disciplinary assessments of children with complex epilepsy for non pharmacological treatments and surgery.
Audit, Management & IT
  • Track record in clinical governance, audit, management and information technology.
  • Understanding of audit principles.
Research, Teaching & Academic Activity
  • Track record of research, publications and presentation, including research ethics.
  • Experience teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior staff.
  • Specialty specific research and higher academic qualifications.
Leadership & Management Skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to build rapport and negotiate.
  • Accountability and decision making in a clinical setting.
  • Interpersonal skills: empathy, listening, patience, teamwork and adaptability.
  • Staff management experience, including performance management and motivation.
  • Financial literacy: knowledge of budgets, financial constraints and accountability.

Financial award

£113,565 to £150,569 a year pro rate (p.a.).
