Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Forensic Psychiatry - Spring ward

The closing date is 09 June 2026

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic candidate to work on Spring ward.

Spring ward is a 15-bedded female medium secure ward at River House, Bethlem Royal Hospital. It provides inpatient secure care to women from south London.

A locum consultant is required from August 2026 until November 2026.

Main duties of the job

This post is 8 PAs (30 hours) and includes 2.0 SPAs. There will also be a request to join the on call forensic consultant rota (circa 1 in 13), paid at an additional 1%.

About us

The successful candidate will be supported by consultant forensic colleagues and AMDs across SLAM Forensic Service, which includes 6 other inpatient wards based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital and 3 further community forensic teams.

Person Specification
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
  • Full Member or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification
  • CCT in Forensic Psychiatry
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Participation in Medical Audit and Quality Assurance
  • Publications accepted by peer review journals in the field of forensic or rehabilitation psychiatry
  • Training in violence risk assessment
  • Formal training in effective psychological therapies
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Experience in other relevant specialties such as learning disability or addictions
