Job Description
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The post holder will primarily assess new patients referred for specialist neurorehabilitation under The Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Service. The role includes providing neurorehabilitation input to the multidisciplinary teams at the Wolfson. Outpatient follow-up clinics are usually conducted face-to-face and remotely via telephone or videocall.

The Queen Mary's Hospital inpatient caseload includes patients admitted for high-intensity rehabilitation (level 1 or level 2) with complex needs, typically due to neurological symptoms secondary to acquired brain injury (ABI), including stroke, inflammation, and trauma.

The ward is divided into three teams: Green team (neuropsychiatry led) for Level 1 patients with ABI or FND, Yellow team (neurology led) for Level 1 patients with ABI, and Blue team (neurorehabilitation led) for Level 2 patients with ABI, spinal, or peripheral neuropathies. Each team has a consultant lead and junior doctor, fostering a culture of flexibility and co-working.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will conduct spasticity clinics within a multidisciplinary team, including an advanced clinical practitioner physiotherapist, and assessment clinics for patients admitted for rehabilitation.

Continuing responsibility for patients in their care on the ward is expected, typically managing four patients, with the remaining four covered by a neurology colleague. Flexibility and cross-cover arrangements will ensure safe and efficient care. The post holder will liaise with relevant professionals within the multidisciplinary team and participate in planning patients' rehabilitation programs.

The post holder will actively participate in departmental activities, including case conferences, team meetings, and representing the medical component of the team. The neurorehabilitation care group meets monthly, involving audit and governance reporting, which the post holder is expected to support.

Collaboration with other services, including community neurorehabilitation teams and neurology teams at St George's Hospital, is required. The post holder will also provide direct clinical supervision to a junior clinical fellow allocated to the team.
