PEOPLE are at the HEART of everything we do
This video gives a flavour of what it is like to work at our Trust and why some of our staff love working here
The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine. This is a substantive post, and applicants will be expected to have suitable experience within Intensive Care Medicine. The new appointee will share the caseload, facilities, and trainee grade support with the existing consultants. Requirements of the post-holder are listed below.
The post is whole time and offers 8.5 Direct Clinical Care Programmed Activities (PAs) and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).
This post has been created to support the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit and to improve care for patients with tracheostomies, as well as to provide cover for the ITU follow-up clinic. The post holder will hold a CCT in Intensive Care Medicine.
Experience working as a locum consultant in Intensive Care, or a fellowship in Intensive Care, would be advantageous.
Main duties of the jobThe appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. The appointee will take his/her share of clinical responsibilities within the Department of Intensive Care Medicine, working alongside the existing 29 ITU Consultants. This will include provision of the ITU follow-up clinic and tracheostomy ward round, as outlined in the job plan above. In addition to any duties within a subspecialty of interest, the appointee will be required to provide critical care for adult patients as appropriate to their training and experience.
There is a need to develop a team with a strong emphasis on delivering a cross-site service across the Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital sites. Post-holders will be required to work on each site.
Working for our organisationWe're an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and our patients are happy with.
They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
We operate from two main sites - KGH in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We're campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen's and get rid of corridor care.
We're proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
We run a Women's Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The majority of our 8,400 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
