Job Description
We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Lead Electrical Engineer based at our Peterborough office, with hybrid working available.

What will you be doing as our new Lead Electrical Engineer?

As our Lead Electrical Engineer, you will be the authority on Electrical Engineering, responsible for providing independent advice and arbitration on quality and compliance issues. You'll support Design Managers and Electrical Lead Engineers in assessing design complexity, identifying suitable methods, and assigning competent resources and specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Foster innovative working methods to achieve sustainable outcomes rather than just outputs.

  • Represent Alliance as the electrical engineering authority, providing expert guidance on quality and compliance issues.

Discipline Management:

  • Develop procedures, standards, and guidance to promote a "right-first-time" approach.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure competency and performance, managing supplier frameworks.

  • Support the asset standards governance process by identifying, supporting, and approving standard products for delivery efficiency and consistency across projects.

Project Delivery:

  • Assist in identifying value-driven solutions during the initial stages of projects.

  • Conduct audits (internal and external) to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.

  • Lead the resolution of non-compliance issues, address competency gaps, and improve procedures.

  • Provide expert guidance on complex design challenges and stakeholder engagement.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, promoting safe and compliant designs.

  • Conduct audits on electrical safety standards (e.g., HAZOP, DSEAR) and lead safety improvement initiatives.

People & Team Development:

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and career development support to the electrical engineering team.

  • Promote professional development and qualifications while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and diverse work environment.

Transformation & Innovation:

  • Encourage a culture of experimentation, learning from failures, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead the adoption of new technologies and techniques to improve performance and sustainability.

To succeed in this role, you'll need a strong background in Electrical engineering within the Water industry, be electrically qualified (preferably Chartered), and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice. Proven leadership skills, the ability to inspire teams, and drive innovation are essential. A deep understanding of sustainability principles, including carbon reduction and natural capital preservation, is also required. Excellent communication, collaboration, stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for mentoring and professional development are crucial for fostering a positive workplace culture.
