Junior Legal Counsel - 12 Month FTC

Location: Hybrid - Swindon (Wiltshire) or Paddington (London)

Salary: Up to £94,000

Role Overview: We are recruiting a Junior Legal Counsel on a fixed term contract to support GDPR, global privacy obligations and emerging AI regulation. You will help embed privacy by design across products, support operational decision making, and contribute to Edenred's privacy and AI governance programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support privacy risk management, including conducting and advising on DPIAs and related assessments to enable compliant product and project decisions.
  • Manage data subject rights requests end to end, ensuring timely, accurate and rights respecting responses.
  • Draft, review and help implement privacy and AI related policies, procedures and standard contractual clauses.
  • Maintain and improve records of processing activities and support governance and audit processes.
  • Monitor regulatory developments (GDPR, e privacy, EU AI Act and related guidance) and translate legal change into clear, practical internal guidance.
  • Provide pragmatic, business facing legal support to colleagues across product, engineering, security and commercial teams.
  • Collaborate with the Data Protection Office (DPO, Group DPO, PPS EU DPO) to align approaches and ensure consistency across jurisdictions.
  • Support privacy awareness and training initiatives for the organisation.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
  • Law degree from a UK or European institution.
  • Practical experience in roles with significant personal data protection responsibilities (e.g., law firm, in house legal team, international company, or Data Protection Authority).
  • Certification in data protection or privacy (CIPP/E or equivalent) and/or demonstrable experience in new technology law.
  • Solid working knowledge of GDPR and practical experience applying data protection law in operational or product development contexts.
  • Strong analytical, communication and problem solving skills; confident advising cross functional teams.
  • Proven integrity, collaborative working style and commitment to responsible data use.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in payments, fintech or regulated financial services.
  • Familiarity with the EU AI Act and AI governance frameworks.
  • Advanced spoken/written French.
