Voluntary Vacancy - HR and Internal Administration Director
By joining our HR Internal Affairs Department, you will be leading our team dedicated to managing the organization and its members. On the one hand, you will oversee the functioning and workflow of the organization, coordinating the various department and ensuring efficient work. On the other hand, you will be in charge of the human resources, supervising talent acquisition and satisfaction of team members. You will lead a team of volunteers and interns to reach target goals.
Why is this a volunteer position?
We are an organization with a long history and good achievements, but so far we have always relied on volunteer work, and we do not have enough budget to pay employees. We now want to step up from volunteer-based to employee-based organization to be able to increase our impact. This is why we are looking for motivated people who can join our core team and help us build the organization and scale up. By working together, we can make this our full-time job and have you as part of our core team. About us:
Since 1989, Fair Tourism has been one of the first organisations in the Netherlands to raise awareness about sustainable tourism, with a particular emphasis on community-based tourism (CBT). We strive for a world where Indigenous people are no longer unwillingly considered an attraction, but are empowered to be leaders in community-based tourism. We achieve this by developing capacity-building training programs and connecting travellers to the Indigenous People. We are currently working on three strategic projects in Thailand, Indonesia, and Kenya; and we regularly collaborate with universities to include students in our projects, conduct research, and raise awareness on sustainable tourism and indigenous people.
Since February 2025, we are also a member organization of The Hague Humanity Hub.
Job brief:
As a fast growing organization, we need to be flexible and quickly adapt to the necessities of a growing and skilful team. With a solid structure already in place, we are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic professional interested in non-profits and development to manage HR and internal administration efforts. This role offers the chance to apply your skills to a meaningful cause.
The main responsibilities for this position include:
• Lead and supervise the HR Internal Affairs team
• Coordinate the various departments to ensure effective communication and workflow
• Oversee and manage the timeline for strategic organizational goals
• Manage the organization's calendar, work platforms and communication channels
• Work towards continuous improvement of organizational structure and work monitoring tools
• Compile weekly overviews about the work being done by the various departments
• Lead the HR team to ensure targeted talent acquisition to fit the needs of the organization
• Oversee onboarding and offboarding of team members
• Ensure the satisfaction of team members
• Advise the board on team management and learning goals for each team member
• Take care of administrative and bureaucratic matters for the organization
• Discuss and define strategic positioning and the core message of the organization with the rest of the board
Requirements:
• Strong professional drive and desire to contribute and learn amongst a multi-cultural, enthusiastic, and driven team.
• Leadership skills; ability to supervise and lead your team effectively.
• Proactive, committed, and available to work with us in the long term until funding is secured for compensation.
• Passion for the field of development and cooperation, preferably with a proven track record of team management and HR.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with the field of HR, administration, and organization-related bureaucracy.
• Ability to connect with people from different backgrounds, and to pitch ideas in an effective way.
• A minimum of 2 years of working experience in the field of HR and/or management and administration.
• A master degree, preferably in one of the following fields: international relations, business administration, communication, finance or project management.
• Based in The Netherlands, preferably in the The Hague area, so we can work in a hybrid setting (twice a week at our office, the rest remote).
• Availability of min. 15 hours per week, but highly recommended to have more hours available.
