Housing Advisor

On behalf of our client, MPA Recruitment is seeking to appoint a Housing Advisor based in Belfast.
This is a rewarding frontline role supporting individuals and families facing housing difficulties. The successful candidate will play a key role in preventing homelessness, providing expert housing advice, and ensuring customers receive appropriate accommodation and support.
You will manage a varied caseload, working closely with internal teams, external agencies, and vulnerable clients to deliver high quality housing services in line with legislation and policy.
Key Responsibilities:Customer Assessment & Case Management
- Assess customers' circumstances through interviews, home visits, and detailed enquiries.
- Manage a caseload, maintaining accurate and up to date case records.
- Take a proactive approach to resolving housing issues and preventing homelessness.
Housing Advice & Support
- Provide comprehensive advice on housing rights, homelessness, tenancy issues, and welfare benefits.
- Support customers to access suitable accommodation in both public and private sectors.
- Promote tenancy sustainment and income maximisation.
Homelessness & Accommodation
- Undertake investigations and make decisions under the Housing Order (NI) 1988 (as amended).
- Arrange emergency and temporary accommodation where required.
- Minimise the use and duration of temporary accommodation through effective case management.
Operational Delivery
- Match applicants to appropriate housing solutions based on assessed needs.
- Conduct housing assessments under the Housing Selection Scheme where applicable.
- Draft responses to complaints and correspondence relating to your caseload.
Safeguarding & Stakeholder Engagement
- Follow safeguarding procedures to protect vulnerable adults and children.
- Liaise with external agencies, support services, and stakeholders.
- Attend case conferences and multi agency meetings as required.
Team Support & Administration
- Support the Business Area Manager in daily operations.
- Assist in supervising administrative staff, ensuring training and performance standards are met.
Essential Criteria:
- A degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience OR
- BTEC Higher qualification with at least 2 years of relevant experience OR
- 3 years of relevant experience (candidates without formal qualifications will be considered)
Desirable:
- Previous experience within a housing or public sector environment
Other Requirements:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage a busy and demanding caseload
- Good knowledge of housing legislation and welfare systems
- Competent in IT systems and record keeping
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A Basic Access NI Check is Required at a cost of £16.
