Location: Sayers Common, West Sussex

Salary: £60,154 - £67,956 per annum, depending on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm

Working Pattern: 5 days per week, including 1 Saturday in every 4 weeks

Weekend Working: Any weekend working will be accommodated with a rota day off

On Call: Included as part of the rota

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Hospital Optometrist to join one of the UK's leading providers of NHS cataract surgery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an optometrist looking to develop their clinical skills and move into hospital optometry. Previous hospital experience isn't essential, as full training will be provided, with support from experienced senior optometrists throughout your development.

The role focuses entirely on patient care rather than sales targets or KPIs, giving you the opportunity to build your clinical expertise across a varied range of ophthalmic services.

You will join an established team of hospital optometrists supporting cataract services across pre-operative, post-operative and YAG laser clinics. There are also opportunities to develop your skills in areas such as Medical Retina and Glaucoma, as well as the organisation's private service.

There may also be opportunities to work from home on occasion.

The Role

As a Hospital Optometrist, your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting pre- and post-operative assessments for cataract surgery patients.
• Carrying out pre-operative assessments for YAG laser capsulotomy referrals.
• Obtaining informed consent in a professional and ethical manner.
• Participating in the weekend and on-call rota.
• Ensuring clinical areas are fully prepared, with equipment checked before and after clinics.
• Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Completing required training, including Basic Life Support and manual handling.
• Providing a high standard of clinical care and patient experience.

About You

We're looking for a qualified optometrist who:

• Holds current GOC registration.
• Has a genuine passion for clinical optometry and patient care.
• Is keen to continue learning and developing their clinical skills.
• Has, or is interested in pursuing, higher qualifications.
• Has an interest in ocular disease and developing advanced clinical skills.
• Has previous hospital optometry experience, although this is not essential as full training will be provided.

If ocular disease was one of your favourite areas of study and you're keen to develop advanced skills such as YAG laser, this could be an excellent next step in your career.
