Higher Level Apprenticeship: Quantity Surveying Armagh

MTM Engineering is offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Higher-Level Apprentice with a passion for Quantity Surveying to join our dynamic team. This Apprenticeship provides an excellent pathway to begin your career in Quantity Surveying, becoming an integral part of our commercial team working on cutting edge projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice at MTM Engineering, you will learn to support commercial tracking and budgets throughout each project. Your focus will be on developing core skills in negotiating contracts and prices, assessing, evaluating and managing construction projects to ensure the best value for money and quality. This apprenticeship will give you a strong foundation in life cycle costing, cost planning, procurement and tendering, contract administration and commercial management.

MTM Engineering is a market leading specialist electrical contractor that provides medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) cable installation, termination services, busbar, and containment solutions for a wide range of construction projects. Headquartered in Ireland, we deliver mission critical projects for a range of customers across Europe and beyond. Our expertise spans industry sectors such as data centres, pharmaceuticals, renewables, power generation, critical infrastructure, and more.

Responsibilities

Assist estimating with measuring and formatting tender returns

Gather accurate information for tendering purposes in a team or on your own

Issue tender queries and assist with the preparation of tender reports

Support pricing and sourcing specialised material

Assist with post tender and precontract activities, including familiarisation with the tender file and preparing commercial targets for the project

Liaise with site teams to update weekly take offs, dayworks and timesheets

Help value, certify and issue relevant payment notices for subcontract works in line with subcontract conditions

Support the management and control of variations on site and assist in agreeing them with the client

Assist in producing valuations for each project for review by the Commercial Manager

Help follow up contract documents, ensuring they are acceptable and signed

Review contractual documentation for items such as price, delivery period and payment terms

Assist with financial analysis of construction projects to help ensure projects remain within budget and payments are managed efficiently

Demonstrate the ability and willingness to develop new and existing client relationships

Carry out any other duties assigned by your line manager

The Person

A conditional offer to study a Higher Level Apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying, with employment dependent on meeting the required entry conditions and formally commencing the course before starting the role

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines

High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

A flexible attitude with a willingness to travel for site visits in Ireland, the UK and Europe as required

Some relevant work experience or exposure to Construction or Quantity Surveying

A keen interest in large scale infrastructure projects, particularly in the data centre and critical infrastructure sectors
