Job Description
With more than 160 professionals and representing 160 fields, the University Hospitals of Geneva are a reference institution at the national level. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to review our retrospective by clicking here. With nearly a team, the Department of Acute Medicine (DMA) includes the Services of Anesthesiology, Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Intensive Care, and Emergency Services. It fulfills a quadruple mission through its services that provide their expertise in frequent interaction with all University Hospitals of Geneva, with a cross-functional approach, aiming to ensure the best possible care. The Emergency Department, a multidisciplinary structure, aims to welcome patients 24/7, regardless of the nature of their issues. It aims to provide rapid and effective care, directing patients to the most appropriate facility based on their needs. In this service, the Unit of the urgent health call center (Emergency Health 144) is under the authority and supervision of the General Directorate of Health of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. This unit handles requests from number 144, regulates emergencies, mobilizes necessary resources, and coordinates rescue operations. It also plays a crucial role in informing and directing callers to appropriate care centers when emergency intervention is not required. It also manages inter-hospital transfers, whether by land or air. With approximately 50, it handles around calls annually, including emergencies, and creates patient files. It also coordinates ambulance missions and SMUR interventions per year. In case of exceptional events, it establishes and manages a center dedicated to monitoring and following up on emergency care. The unit is staffed by qualified paramedics (nursing staff or EMTs) who filter urgent calls, assist witnesses in performing first aid, and provide medical advice over the phone, all based on delegated medical protocols. Furthermore, the unit is responsible for and managing emergency medical aid at the cantonal level, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Health. It also manages the emergency medical aid system in collaboration with the Cantonal Office of Systems and Numbers. The unit also conducts a program focused on improving emergency care processes, including managing stops and triaging in emergencies. It develops innovative projects for creating tools and remote assistance for first aid actions. It also establishes itself as an essential component, particularly for the paramedical medical delegation, supported by specialists. The unit will expand with the introduction of a new telephone line dedicated to triaging and responding to non-critical emergency calls, complementing the urgent health call center (CASU-144) - 80% to 100%. As part of institutional projects and the development of the 144 center's activities, we are looking for several healthcare professionals to complete its team. You will ensure emergency calls, determine priorities autonomously, decide on the necessary intervention means suitable for the urgency and nature of the situation, including providing care as needed. You will ensure the proper management of the necessary resources, follow missions as well as communicate with hospital structures. You will manage the real-time availability of all rescue means and coordinate assistance during major events or emergencies. You will actively participate in the training of interns and the onboarding of new colleagues. You hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or an equivalent title recognized by the Swiss Red Cross, with 5 years of experience in nursing. You possess the EMT diploma or an equivalent title recognized by the Swiss Red Cross, with 5 years of experience in pre-hospital care.
