Health & Safety Manager - Major Construction Project Location: Devon Contract: Permanent, Full-Time Flexible Working: Available Clearance Required: BPSSAre you an experienced Health & Safety professional looking to make your mark on one of the largest and most high-profile construction projects in the South West?We're working with a respected large contractor to recruit a Health & Safety Manager for a flagship scheme in Devon, supporting the expansion of a major public sector facility. Role Overview:This is a lead Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) role, acting as the primary point of contact across the project team and wider regional HSW leadership. You will drive strategy, support safe delivery, and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the programme lifecycle. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the project's HSW strategy in line with overall business plans.
  • Act as a conduit between project teams and regional safety leadership.
  • Chair regular project HSW coordination meetings to ensure consistent communication of safety standards.
  • Cascade key safety communications, lessons learned, and updates to project stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular Site Safety Inspections (SSIs) using digital platforms (e.g. Novade).
  • Guide project teams on risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statement reviews.
  • Report regularly on HSW matters to senior leadership and respond to incidents or regulatory engagement.
  • Drive improvements through behavioural safety and culture-change initiatives.
? Candidate Requirements:
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) - essential.
  • Significant experience leading Health & Safety on large-scale construction projects
  • Proven leadership, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive behavioural change.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, best practice, and construction safety procedures.
  • Experience implementing HSW strategies across complex project environments.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in a high-profile, regulated environment.
