The Role
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join EDF Heat Pumps (formerly CB Heating), a well-established SME recently acquired by EDF, providing investment and growth opportunities on a larger scale. The role is based in Clacton-On-Sea with hybrid working options.
The primary purpose of the role is to lead, develop, and implement health, safety & environmental (HS&E) best practices, systems, and frameworks across EDF Heat Pumps and its stakeholder activities. This includes employees in offices, at home, in warehouses, and contractor partners undertaking installation work across the UK.
The post holder will set HS&E standards across the business and influence the senior management team to achieve ZERO HARM internally and externally with contractor partners and other stakeholders.
While day-to-day management will be through EDF Heat Pumps, the post holder will also have a 'dotted line' into the EDF HS&W team to facilitate networking and collaboration with other HS&W professionals within the larger utility organization.
Principal AccountabilitiesThe successful candidate will be the senior reference point for all HS&E matters, providing authoritative advice to Directors and other leaders. They will share responsibility for driving HS&E leadership across all levels, ensuring health, safety, and environmental considerations are prioritized, with full engagement from the senior management team.
They will support the development and implementation of strategies for systems, culture, and assurance aimed at reaching ZERO HARM. This includes championing action plans, interventions, and campaigns for continual HS&E performance improvement, and developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and EDF obligations.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & ExperienceThe post holder requires strong leadership skills and extensive knowledge of HS&E legislation and risk management, including CDM 2015 regulations. Experience in developing, reviewing, and monitoring HS&E management systems and procedures is essential.
Familiarity with ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 certifications, including leading external surveillance and re-certification processes, is necessary. Experience in developing and executing HS&E risk-based strategies and action plans is also required.
Effective collaboration within management teams and with external stakeholders is crucial. Candidates should hold a NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent, and ideally be Chartered members of IOSH or working towards this status.
