Lead the Future of Smart Metering in the UK
We are seeking an exceptional Head of Technology Architecture to take strategic ownership of the architectural vision behind one of the UK's most critical national infrastructure programmes - the smart metering ecosystem. This is a pivotal role offering high visibility across government, industry, and regulatory stakeholders, with significant influence over the future of energy services.
As a senior leader, you will drive architectural excellence and domain leadership across the business, ensuring our technology solutions are secure, integrated, scalable, and aligned with evolving national energy objectives.
This is a career-defining opportunity to shape the direction of one of the most important digital infrastructure programmes in the UK. You'll be at the forefront of energy innovation, leading teams and strategies that will have a lasting impact on millions of consumers, the energy industry, and national policy.
Your Role & Impact
- Architectural Strategy: Define and lead the organisation's architectural vision and technology direction, aligned to our strategic goals and regulatory obligations.
- Leadership: Inspire and develop a high-performing team of Domain and Solution Architects, championing architectural maturity and excellence.
- Delivery Enablement: Own architectural outcomes that support complex, mission-critical transformation programmes.
- Stakeholder Influence: Represent the technology function at the highest levels - internally, across government, and with industry bodies.
- Cross-Enterprise Collaboration: Embed architecture into decision-making across delivery, commercial, regulatory, and operational teams.
- Governance & Assurance: Lead architecture governance, ensuring consistent application of frameworks and standards across the enterprise.
- Supplier Management: Hold third-party suppliers to account for technology roadmaps and architectural integrity.
What will you be doing?
- Proven experience leading architectural functions in regulated, complex environments.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and nurturing high-performing architecture teams.
- Demonstrable success leading major transformation programmes with strategic importance.
- A blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and business acumen.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior executives and regulators.
- Experience with architecture governance, supplier accountability, and value-driven decision-making.
What are we looking for?
- Prior engagement with government or regulatory bodies (e.g., BEIS, Ofgem, SECAS).
- Familiarity with the Smart Energy Code and DCC licence obligations.
- Involvement in mission-critical national infrastructure initiatives.
- Recognised architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF, Bizzdesign).
