Job overview

The successful applicant will join a team of 30 registrars (deanery trainees, bone marrow transplant/CAR-T coordinators and senior clinical fellows), who are supervised by >30 haematology consultants covering the entire range of malignant, non-malignant and experimental haematology. The post holder will participate in the wider haematology on call rota, including laboratory and liaison haematology.

Applicants should have completed SHO-level training (minimum 4 years postgraduate clinical experience) in internal medicine, and/or be in an established haematology registrar role. The posts are suitable for IMT trainees who wish to gain haematology experience in order to secure a National Training Number, or for existing senior haematology trainees who wish to gain further tertiary centre experience prior to commencing a consultant post.

We also support applicants from UK trainees who are looking to undertake an OOPE, or OOPT to broaden clinical experience, and suitability qualified doctors looking to pursue GMC specialist registration via the Professional Porfolio pathway.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The duration of the post is 6 months. The fellow will take part in the on-call rota with prospective cover. The post holder must be flexible and prepared to cover the clinical needs of the service on a day-to-day basis.

The department is research active, in both clinical and academic haematology, with many opportunities to get involved, and work towards making national or international contributions in the field.

Person specification Qualifications and experiance

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Full GMC registration with license to practice.
• Membership of the Royal College of Physicians MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
• Completed core medical training (4 years postgraduate experience in internal medicine) or equivalent
• Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduate levels
• Previous clinical and laboratory haematology knowledge.
• Ability to interpret laboratory investigations independently.
• Ability to organize and prioritise workloads, run a ward round and delegate responsibility appropriately.
• Good interpersonal skills, and an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Working within a team, as well as using own initiative
• Understanding research methodologies and good clinical practice framework
• Commitment to high-quality patient care and CPD.
