An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Surgical Specialties Division at University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, for a General Manager covering Uro-Oncology and Westmoreland Street Theatres.

We are looking for a dynamic leader, who is passionate about quality, patient-centred care, and our people. You will work closely with and lead the Urology Oncology team and WMS theatres as well as working cross division to support the operational running of the department.

This is a fantastic development opportunity for an individual looking to gain further experience in a large, complex tertiary cancer service. Candidates will require the ability to manage competing demands across several complex services, whilst being adaptable to the strategic and operational needs of the division.

Main duties of the job The Uro-Oncology and WMS Theatres General Manager is an exciting role, providing key operational and strategic leadership across a large, world-leading urological cancer service and 7 operating theatres. The role is pivotal to the successful running of theatres at Westmoreland Street and for urology cancer performance.

This is a dynamic leadership role focused on improving cancer waiting times, optimising theatre productivity, ensuring financial efficiency, leading teams, and supporting innovation at Westmoreland Street. The successful candidate will work in close partnership with clinical and operational teams to lead on performance, optimise productivity, reduce waits, and deliver high-quality patient care in a complex surgical environment.

This post holder will also have operational responsibility for the WMS site as manager of the day, leading EPRR events and supporting staff and patient with incident management.

Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent (or in exceptional circumstance - able to demonstrate significant level of equivalent experience)
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of NHS targets and other topical NHS issues
• A formal post graduate qualification, ideally in management or equivalent senior level experience
• A clear understanding of the components of Clinical Governance and how these contribute to an integrated and quality driven service

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years relevant management experience, preferable within the NHS or similar environment.
• Experience of effective management of budgets & delivery of cost saving
• Experience of leading and supervising teams
• A proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of strategic plans
• A proven record of success in managing operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
• Experience of service redesign and development
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of multidisciplinary issues and commitment to multidisciplinary working
• A sound understanding of the issues affecting patients with cancer, professional groups working with Cancer and research issues affecting service development

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks within agreed time scales.
• IT literate: proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet packages
• Ability to demonstrate Political awareness and sensitivity to the high profile of the Directorate and the Trust
• An ability to demonstrate in-depth Knowledge of current thinking and policy affecting health and public sector

Communication

• High standard of written and spoken English
• Able to present effectively to a variety of audiences (Staff, Senior/Executive Managers, Clinicians and external stakeholders)
• Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, with the proven ability to liaise effectively within a multidisciplinary team based environment
