Job Description 4 - 5 Month Contract With A Local Authority Job Purpose

To oversee and manage the council's fleet operations, ensuring full compliance with legal and safety standards, while delivering cost effective and efficient vehicle lifecycle management across all services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure fleet compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and health & safety requirements.
  • Manage the full vehicle lifecycle, including procurement, maintenance, replacement strategies, and disposal.
  • Monitor and control fleet related budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and value for money.
  • Oversee and manage contracts with external suppliers, ensuring service delivery meets agreed standards.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records, compliance documentation, and reporting systems.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with fleet operations, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse data and performance metrics to inform decision making and optimise fleet performance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and departments to support operational needs.
  • Produce reports and provide expert advice on fleet management and compliance matters.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience in fleet management and compliance.
  • Proven experience managing vehicle lifecycle costs and replacement programmes.
  • Experience managing external suppliers and contracts.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident working with data, systems, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including report writing.
  • Proactive approach to risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of health & safety requirements (qualification desirable).
  • CPC in Road Haulage or Passenger Transport Operations (desirable).

  • Ability to travel across the borough as required.
